Telehealth for direct-to-consumer care

Preparing patients for a telehealth visit

Preparing a patient for a direct-to-consumer telehealth visit includes communication and education.

Educating patients

It is important that patients are prepared and have the appropriate resources to participate in a direct-to-consumer (DTC) telehealth appointment. Key considerations include:

  • Technologies. When patients are scheduling an appointment, ensure that they have the resources they need. This may include an internet connection and a device such as a phone, tablet, or computer.
  • Patient engagement. Actively educate patients on the services that are available. It is important that patients understand when it is appropriate to use DTC telehealth and when they should seek in-person care.
  • Preparation. Provide instructions to the patient for testing their technology. It is important to provide technical support as needed to troubleshoot any issues.

Tip: Share these patient resources.
